Mindfulness

A Practical Introduction

Developing awareness of thoughts, emotions and bodily experience in everyday life.

A four-week programme introducing practical mindfulness skills for navigating stress, overthinking, and the pressures of daily life.

Based on the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA) curriculum.

What Mindfulness Develops

Mindfulness introduces a way of developing greater awareness of these experiences as they arise.

With practice, people often begin to recognise thoughts, emotions and bodily responses earlier. This awareness can create space for steadier responses during moments of pressure.

Situations Where People Explore Mindfulness

People sometimes explore mindfulness when they notice experiences such as:

persistent worry or overthinking

difficulty switching off from work or responsibilities

feeling mentally scattered or constantly distracted

emotional reactions that feel difficult to regulate

The intention of the programme is not simply relaxation, but developing practical awareness that can be applied in everyday life.

What the Programme Introduces

Over four sessions the programme introduces practical skills such as:

recognising where attention moves during daily activities

noticing thoughts and emotions without immediately reacting

recognising early bodily signs of stress or tension

returning attention when the mind drifts into worry or rumination

developing short mindfulness practices that can fit into everyday routines

What Sessions Include

Each session typically includes:

1

guided mindfulness practice

2

brief reflection and discussion

3

exploring how these skills appear in daily life

The emphasis is on practical application rather than theory.

Practice Between Sessions

Mindfulness develops through regular practice.

Participants receive lifetime access to a companion mindfulness app used alongside the programme. The app contains guided audio practices based on the mindfulness skills introduced during the sessions.

Participants can also record short reflections about their practice within the app. These reflections can be reviewed by the facilitator, who may respond within the platform to support learning between sessions.

The app allows participants to:

  • revisit guided practices introduced in class
  • record reflections and observations
  • develop a regular mindfulness routine between sessions
