Anxiety

When anxiety begins to take up more space

Anxiety can appear in many different ways.

Sometimes it shows up as persistent worry about work, family, or responsibilities. At other times it is felt more in the body, through restlessness, tightness in the chest, difficulty sleeping, or a sense that it is hard to fully relax.

For many people, anxiety does not always look dramatic from the outside. Life may appear to be going well, yet internally there may be a growing sense of tension that becomes harder to hold, especially during periods of increased pressure.

When understanding does not immediately change the reaction

Many people experiencing anxiety already understand what is happening logically.

They may recognise that certain worries are excessive or that their reactions seem stronger than the situation requires. They may even tell themselves to calm down or stop overthinking.

Yet in the moment, thoughts, emotions and physical responses can still unfold quickly and feel difficult to influence.

When these experiences are examined more carefully, patterns often become clearer.

Understanding these patterns more clearly often becomes the starting point for change.

When people seek support for anxiety

People sometimes seek support when they notice experiences such as:

  • A mind that continues worrying or planning even when you try to rest
  • Physical tension such as tightness in the chest or difficulty relaxing
  • Sleep being affected by racing thoughts
  • Reacting more strongly than intended in certain moments
  • Holding yourself to very high expectations and feeling pressure not to let others down
  • Being seen by others as capable while privately carrying more self-doubt than they realise
